Is the so-called tradition again this year "scinnute", which are the preparatory rites, which are made every Friday of Lent, leading the procession of the Holy Friday.
It is a tradition that dates back around 1600, which provides not a real procession of the individual group, but of a "descent", hence the term "scinnuta" in dialect, of the groups concerned towards the center of the altar the Church of the Holy Souls in Purgatory, where the groups are adorned with flowers and silver, while outside the church there is a band that performs the characteristic funeral repertoire. Followed by a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop.
Even if the 2016 timetable has been drawn up by the Union Maestranze, it is not the original timetable of the rite, because in ancient times there were no "Scinnute" even more groups at the same time, not to mention the band, but originally the Sacred Groups, that before the second World war were in the church of St. Michael the Archangel, they were dropped from their niche for a given Friday of Lent.
Over the centuries the religious rite has changed, however, in the heart of Trapani it remains intact the charm of a devotion difficult to extinguish, because this long Lenten preparation does nothing but increase the wait for the rites of Holy Week.
Be noted that we are not only the scinnute of Mysteries, but also those of the "two Madonnas", held in the last week of Lent.
