A tip for the many tourists, who already crowded these days of early summer our region, is to visit the museum which is located in the equipped dell´Intreccio Uzzo (Zingaro Nature Reserve) near S. Vito Lo Capo.
To create a museum space, furnished in an old house, renovated with European funding, to exhibit artifacts of daily life once woven plant fibers, is really an original idea, because it tells these objects with the arts and crafts, that they have made the history of this area, but above all represent an authentic witness of the life that once was, made of simplicity and dedication to work, which are almost disappeared.
The museum consists of two rooms that expose these simple creations under the watchful eye of the director of the Zingaro Nature Reserve, Valeria Restuccia.
In the first room they are exposed "zimmili, Canistrà and coffee", basically the old bags, which were used by the farmers, as well as various ornamental pieces, always made with the ancient method of the plot. In the second room, however, in addition to admire a color drawing of two women, made by a hermit who lived in this house, other items embellished with precious stones.
For those wishing to learn this ancient art of weaving, there is even a school, which is right at the Gypsy, just with the express purpose of teaching the younger old traditions, because a people that does not know its past, is intended to have no future.
