In Marsala , during the Holy Week, is experiencing a striking moment thanks to the procession of the Living Groups that on Holy Thursday commemorates the Passion of Christ.
The event, curated by the Brotherhood of St. Anne, involving hundreds of actors and extras , that parade through the main streets of the city wearing period costumes.
The Procession of Holy Thursday Marsala has the distinction of being the only one in the province of Trapani, to have maintained the appearance of the ancient theater : the extras are citizens who recite Marsala .
Everything originates from the custom , since the Middle Ages , to recite passages from the Bible in front of the entrance of the city´s churches . More than a prerogative of artistic and cultural heritage, the event took on an educational value , as allowed to tell the Bible to the people, generally unable to read and understand the Latin language used for high masses . For the occasion , the St. Anne´s confrati I used white robes, and brought with them the statue of the dead Christ .
The procession , as well as it is today, took shape in 1755 , confirming the exclusivity of its organization to the Brotherhood of St. Anne. The procession starts right after church Marsala , every year , at around 14:00, the Church of St. Anne , through the streets of the city until the evening , when he returned in the premises of the church.
After that, the tableaux , representing the most significant moments of the Passion of Christ´s entry into Jerusalem , the dialogues with the apostles , the encounter with Pilate and Herod , the arrest , the scourging, the ordeal and death .
Just like the Mysteries of Trapani, for the Procession of the Holy Thursday Marsala is expected the presence of the statue of the dead Christ and the Addolorata - Trapani recently restored and again recently " donated" to the public - the protagonist of the procession Marsala the next day. To conclude the procession , we think the band and the crowd of worshipers.
