Like all cities of southern Italy, Trapani also has a strong tradition concerning New Year firecrackers.
Tradition has it that New Year´s Eve fireworks have the dual purpose of scaring off evil spirits and appease then good luck, but at the same time to create a primordial chaos from which to symbolically reborn .
Whatever the roots of this ancestral tradition , Trapani, San Vito lo Capo , Favignana and all the cities of the province do not give up this ancient and striking rite.
With all due respect animal rights , the firecrackers are bought from their families before New Year ´s Day and New Year´s Eve preparations on hold when , at the stroke of midnight, there was a very impressive and exciting event to hear the city "explode" in party ( if you´ll forgive the pun ) .
But the "botti" are not just firecrackers, but also Fondane colored light and bright that can be glimpsed on the balconies of many houses, sparkling and cheerful .
And then whistles , bangs, various "trikkettrakkement" that enliven the night of New Year´s Eve .
Obviously you have to be careful handling these fireworks because it could be dangerous to the health of children and adults. Some rules must be kept in mind and adhered to : 1 ) Only buy fireworks and approved according to law 2 ) It is not a competition to see who makes the biggest bang but a feast for both large and small : more colors and less noise is the watchword 3 ) When you light the fuse , get away quickly 4) Do not take off the ground firecrackers defective or unexploded 5 ) The firecrackers should be handled only by adults , possibly sober ( !) 6) The firecrackers should never be thrown upon the person or in enclosed places . 7) Keep the firecrackers separated from each other and away from sources of heat.
With these small measures of common sense our New Year´s Eve will be crackling and colorful safely .
