Exposed in Marsala, by Convent of the Carmine, thirteen paintings by Antonino Leto gathered together by "Fondazione Sicilia" exposition. "Un secolo, ma non si vede" (the name of the exposition) celebrates the centenary of the death of the Sicilian ( Monreale 1844 - Capri 1913).
The exhibition, open from November 29 until January 26, with free admission, coming from Palazzo Branciforte Palermo , where it was exposed in May , and is a very valuable collection of oils made in the latter part of the nineteenth century . Accompanying the exhibition is a selection of bibliographic records and archives with which reconstructs the evolution of the art of the painter, famous for its views and seascapes populated by fishermen and girls immortalized in the warm light of the sun of Sicily and educated in simplicity of everyday life . Among the works in the exhibition, where unusually also include a mythological subject ( " The Childhood of Zeus " , 1877) , two in particular have as protagonist the territory of Trapani are the "View of the Establishment Florio" ( 1865-70 ) of Marsala and " The Slaughter in Favignana" (1887) , a historical document , even before being a work of art , amazing quality for formal and pathos. All the paintings belong to the Foundation Sicily. Artist with a complex and uneasy , often fleeing from Sicily between Naples, Rome , Florence, Paris and finally Capri - who took refuge in the last decades of his life - Leto welcomed the suggestions in its production as much as Lojacono youth outcomes and modern nerve of the ´ stain painting ´ learned during his stays off the island. Thus arrive at Marsala works to the territory of Trapani are closely linked . The new exhibition at the rooms of the Convent of the Carmine , headquarters of Contemporary Painting Exhibition , has an additional meaning to the relationship that bound Leto Ignazio Florio, who was the protector and patron of the artist since his youth .
