San Vito lo Capo. Meet at 9am on Friday 6 May at the Zingaro Nature Reserve (south entrance, Scopello side) to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the first protected area in Sicily.
On 6 May 1981, the Sicilian Region has established the Natural Reserve of Zingaro starting a political-cultural process that has allowed the establishment of a regional natural heritage composed of more than seventy five Parks and Nature Reserves.
Today 10% of the territory is subject to environmental protection and Sicily has reached international standards in protecting and preserving biodiversity.
The UN initiative to proclaim 2011 as International Year of Forests "has stimulated school students Buseto Palizzolo, Castellammare del Golfo, San Vito Lo Capo Custonaci and to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Protected Areas in Sicily with the play" A day with the Gypsy ", an original evocation of the history of the Zingaro Nature Reserve. The show is curated by students of the municipalities in which the Protected Area falls under the coordination by the "Alf Leila", the collaboration of the Chair of Interior Design Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, the Art School "Eustace Catalano" in Palermo and participation Custonaci Choir, Choir of the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana Kandinsky and Music Factory. Also provided for cultural events such as reading the sunset of poems dedicated to the Gypsy and the first view of the spectacular images of an amazing discovery: a system of underwater caves that develop in the subsoil of the Zingaro Nature Reserve. The images show hard to reach places where freshwater rivers flow and ongoing natural phenomena that make great places probably the oldest inhabited by our ancestors and show how Sicily is still able to reserve large surprises to those who can and wants to try.
