Today we are Egadi Islands archipelago, composed of three main islands and two other minor located about 7 km from the west coast of Sicily, in the middle of Marsala and Trapani, the five islands are part of the province of Trapani and in the together constitute the town of Favignana.
The archipelago, which is closely connected with Sicily and size of 37.45 km square is made up of five islands: Favignana, Marettimo Levanzo and are the main, while Ant and Maraone are minor, consisting mostly of rocks. LEVANZO ISLAND - Among the five islands of Egadi is the smallest, it has a terrestrial area of only 5 square kilometers, consists of white limestone and sees the presence of numerous caves, rolling stock, has no roads, except for a small stretch of paved road that leads to the beach Faraglione. On the coast overlooking a number of caves, including the most famous is the Grotta del Genovese featuring carvings and cave paintings of 11,000 years ago.
MARETTINO ISLAND - This island is the westernmost of Egadi and became detached from the mainland thousands of years before the other two main islands, are worthy of note are also several caves accessible only by sea.
Maraone ISLAND - This is a small strip of land, or perhaps I should say a big rock to form long and narrow a little over 600 meters and a width, which in point higher, no greater than 80. It lies between the island and the coast of Trapani Levanzo.
