Next Wednesday December 22 inaugurated "Wood, Canvas e.. sculpture Polymaterials Trapani between six hundred and nine hundred ", the new exhibition to be held at the convention center of Saint Augustine Diocesan Museum of Trapani. On display are masterpieces of Trapani, a true art, unique in the centuries that divided the production of the territory.
This is an exhibition that highlights the work of a typical expression of artistic Trapani who until recently was being infringed (and erroneously) called papier-mâché. In reality they are different materials of sculptures made of wood, canvas, glue, straw, cork, iron, etc. .... Will be a selection of works of great artistic production Trapani ranging from 600 to 800. The Museum Pepoli lent collection of crib figurines that are certainly among the most important works among those exposed. Interesting is the Sorrows of Lorenzo Curti, given by the Church of Sant'Oliva in Alcamo. From Erice, among other works, comes the beautiful "Sacred Family" of the Church of San Cataldo, recovered through a skilful restoration laboratory in the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage Trapani.
On display 22 works, accompanied by an area where it will be highlighted in the production technique of the works. The Superintendency has also set up educational displays at the Palace Pappalardo, on Via Garibaldi and a work in progress of restoration works of different materials that will be available from the school several days a week.
Trapani in the shops for several generations, many teachers who were formed to identify and develop with the sculptures of different materials a common artistic language, using simple materials, the feature had to aim at the sense of reality. The elaboration of this original technique was motivated primarily by the need to produce works of size, all-round, which were read for the processional devotion.

The most famous expression of this technical and operational value is evidenced by the procession of the Mysteries of Trapani and Erice ".
This technique, known as' wood canvas and glue, "Trapani unites almost all the artists of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Giovanni Matera, the Ciotti, Giuseppe Milanta, James Tartaglia, the Nolfi, Baldassare Pisciotta, Vito Lombardo are some of the talented sculptors working between the '600 and '700, in the late nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century continued on their wake Pietro Croce, Antonio Giuffrida, Giuseppe Cafiero, Dominic Li Muli.

The exhibition is the result of a synergy between the Diocesan Museum, the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and the Regional Museum Pepoli. During the exhibition the Superintendence of a visit to Trapani will open site in the conservation laboratory, will be reserved one day a week to schools who request it.
The opening date for Wednesday, December 22 will be preceded by a speech of the director of the Museum Precopi Anna Maria Lombardo at 19:00 at the Church of the College of Trapani. Will be followed by an illustration of the restoration techniques by Dr.. Thomas Guastella of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage of Trapani.
