The ancient art of coral will be the protagonist for a month in Trapani with exhibitions, conferences and even shows that will enliven the buildings and streets of the historic city center thanks to a project carried out by the municipal administration with the patronage of the Department of Local Autonomy of the Sicilian Region.
The first step of this initiative called "Coral: art and tradition - Looking to the future thinking about the past" will be a conference scheduled for December 13 at the Fardelliana Library, which will be attended by Maestro Platimiro Fiorenza, a historic coral craftsman from Trapani who can boast the prestigious recognition of being registered in the Register of Intangible Heritage of Sicily (REIS).
On that occasion Platimiro Fiorenza will talk about his long experience in the art of coral processing.
On December 22nd, in the charming cloister of S. Domenico, there will be a wonderful evening with a show entitled “Canti del Mare e del Corallo” by the Sicilian storyteller, also a member of the REIS, who will perform a guitar and voice performance. The end will be followed by a performance with traditional jewelry and an architectural video mapping curated by Damiano Service.
From December 13th to January 8th, the rooms of Palazzo Milo, in via Garibaldi, home of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, will host an exhibition of coral nativity scenes of extraordinary workmanship curated by Trapani artisans. To complete this extraordinary experience for visitors, there will be a sort of tour of the historic artisan workshops of Trapani: Rosso Corallo, Coralli e Preziosi di Graffeo e Damiano and Gioielleria Fiorenza dal 1921.
The last stop on this fascinating cultural journey will end at the Pepoli Museum, where the most prestigious collections of coral art in the world are exhibited.
