Everything is ready for the seventh edition of the sailing regatta that will take place on the Strait of Sicily and around the Egadi Islands from 26 to 27 October, valid for the assignment of the Ciaccio Montalto Judge Trophy.
The event is organized by the Lega Navale di Trapani and includes navigation along the coast north of Trapani and the circumnavigation of the island of Levanzo. There will be three race fields: field 1 which includes the route to reach the island of Porcelli north of Trapani, field 2 located in front of Trapani and field 3, a long race that will reach the island of Levanzo. This stretch of sea was so loved by Judge Ciaccio Montalto and that is why the memorial dedicated to him could not avoid tracing the various circuits in that portion of sea.
The idea for this sailing regatta came to the National Association of Magistrates in 2018 and the Lega Navale embraced it with great pride to pay homage to a civil hero, a victim of the mafia, with a sailing event, a sport that he loved to practice in his free time.
This year´s novelty is the participation of the Vega boat, seized from a group of smugglers on one of the many clandestine routes on the migrant trade. Assigned today to the Lega Navale, the boat has become an indispensable symbol in the fight against clandestine human trafficking but, at the same time, an indispensable element of legality; in fact, on board the Vega there will be men and women of the State as a crew.
The Lega Navale is therefore proud to propose this event again this year in memory of Judge Ciaccio Montalto as a garrison of memory and legality for future generations.
The Ciaccio Montalto trophy is currently held by the “Elima” crew led by the owners Sugamele/Cappello, winners of the last edition.
