Itīs still great sailing in Trapani with the tenth edition of the Five Lighthouses Regatta organized by the Palermo Rowing Society which has been organizing this beautiful event for ten years.
The five lighthouses regatta is not only a sporting competition but also a viaticum for the tourist promotion of the area given that the sailing boats will compete on the "playing field" of the splendid Trapani sea.
This event is included among the trials of the Italian Offshore Championship and is a 140 mile offshore sailing regatta, starting from the Gulf of Palermo (Acqua dei Corsari), passing through the lighthouses and protected marine areas of western Sicily. Among these it is worth mentioning the Porcelli rocks which will once again provide the backdrop for a one-of-a-kind event. The lighthouse of the same name is still functioning and still directs ships approaching the port of Trapani, warning them of the presence of the adjacent cliff.
A little curiosity: The stones used to build this lighthouse were extracted from the Custonaci quarries and then enriched with iron and cement.
The regatta will end with the arrival at the expected finish line in the Gulf of Mondello on Monday 8 July.
