The second sailing regatta of the season will be the one scheduled from 10 to 12 May called "Rotta dei Florio" which this year celebrates its third edition.
It is no coincidence that the regatta which takes place in the territories of Palermo, Trapani and the Egadi archipelago recalls the legendary Florio family, who between the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were among the richest families in Italy with a rich corporate empire, which ranged from chemistry to winemaking, from tourism to the tuna industry.
A particularly charismatic figure of the family was certainly Ignazio Florio (1838-1891), because he had the happy intuition that the family´s areas of interest had to go beyond the simple grocery store, which they owned at the beginning, and this intuition actually led the Florios to infinite riches.
Among other things, he was the founder of the Roggero di Lauria Rowing Club of Palermo, which is the body that organizes the regatta starting at the end of module
Friday 10 May with the collaboration of the Italian Naval League, Trapani section. The sporting event recalls the historical route of the commercial vessels of the Florio fleet with a route that aims to enhance the riches of territories such as Palermo, Trapani and the Egadi, united by the sea and history.
In past editions, dozens of boats competed in the two stages with very competitive crews who faced a fascinating and interesting itinerary from a strategic point of view. This is the strength of a regatta that fully fits into the panorama of sailing competitions in the Mediterranean area.
The route of the first stage will be an offshore regatta starting from Mondello and arriving in Trapani on 10 May, as we were saying, with departure at 11.00 am and arrival in Trapani at the Lega Navale terrace while on Saturday 11 May at 1.55 pm the second stage includes an offshore regatta starting from Trapani, forced passage to the Favignana buoy and arrival in the Gulf of Mondello.
On Sunday 12 May the regatta will end with arrival in Mondello and an awards ceremony.
