Itīs as if Trapani went back in time when in 2005 the Americaīs Cup raged on the Trapani seas, which brought so much good to our territory in terms of tourist presences and worldwide fame.
Today that international atmosphere, albeit in reduced terms, will relive from 3 to 5 May with the sailing regatta called "Battle of the Egadi" on the occasion of the anniversary of the famous final naval battle of the First Punic War, where after over twenty years of great clashes on land and at sea, the great Carthage suffered a humiliating defeat near the Egadi archipelago with very high costs both in terms of human lives and naval assets, not to mention the enormous expenditure of financial resources that the Carthaginians had to bear to finance war operations.
Having made this historical premise to frame the spirit of the event, to which the Sebastiano Tusa trophy is connected, the famous Sicilian archaeologist and Superintendent of the sea who dedicated his entire life to the study of the Battle of the Egadi and who tragically passed away due to the irony of which arose on 10 March 2019 in a plane crash in Ethiopia on the very day the final battle of 241 BC was commemorated.
The sporting event of great tourist attraction is organized by the Naval League of Trapani with the patronage of the municipality of Trapani and is validly inserted in the sporting panorama not only of our Province of Trapani but also at a regional level and increasingly attracts the attention of shipowners of offshore boats and Sicilian sportsmen as well as local and regional media.
