The engines of the seventieth edition of the historic Monte Erice time trial begin to roar, the traditional sporting event that gathers many enthusiasts along the route until arriving in the historic medieval village of Erice summit.
As we were saying, this year the hill climb celebrates its seventieth anniversary and for the occasion the Automobile Club Trapani, which has always organized the event, has prepared many events that connect Trapani, Valderice and Erice, the three host cities , in a single circuit of the inaugural test of the new Superclimb championship.
This year the checks will be held in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Trapani and it is not a random choice, because in 1954 when the first edition was held, the cars started from this location, where the old city joins the new one. By doing the preliminaries right in Piazza Vittorio, which is just a few dozen meters from the sea, the participants will be able to smell its scent in a sort of auspicious embrace.
Since the first edition, many kilometers have been covered to make this event even more exciting, which over the years has grown, revised and improved to continuously increase safety and the number of participants, while maintaining some characteristics of the route, which are the difficult hairpin bends that connect Valderice to Erice, which make the competition one of the best and fascinating time trials in Italy, if only for the Tyrrhenian Sea, which forms the backdrop to the circuit.
This year´s edition winks at the past, but looks with wide eyes at the future, because the hillclimb is not just a motoring event, but can be a great driving force for tourism in the area.
