Opening Holy Week with the various rites and processions in the province of Trapani will be the ritual of the Via Crucis with paintings of real characters in Buseto Palizzolo on the afternoon of Palm Sunday. It is now a tradition that has been renewed since 1980 and every year there are more and more visitors who flock to the small town of Buseto to watch the evocative living paintings.
It is a procession that has its roots in popular culture and unfolds in the representation of the Passion and Death of Jesus through 16 paintings, mounted on enormous floats and accompanied by the funeral marches of the musical band.
Furthermore, accompanying this parade of floats are numerous groups of faithful dressed in traditional clothing, who participate with faith and devotion in this event with rich emotional moments.
Every year this sacred representation is performed again, not always the same, because on the part of the Confraternity of the Crucifix, which organizes the religious event, there is a continuous study of the evangelical and historiographical sources.
As already mentioned, the first edition of this event dates back to 1980 and was born from the idea of some young people, animated by an authentic religious feeling, but then over time the religious faith was rightly accompanied by a great desire to attract many tourists to Buseto Palizzolo who filled the streets of the Erice countryside town to open the rites of Holy Week.
The event begins at 5pm and then ends in the main square of the town around midnight and only as evening falls, the procession also called by the Mysteries takes on a particular charm because it offers all its beauty as a whole.
