Preparations are underway in Trapani for Holy Week, where starting from Palm Sunday there will be a series of rites that have very ancient roots and which today have a strong tourist attraction. For these days, in fact, thousands of visitors are expected who canīt wait to immortalize the most beautiful moments that each rite expresses with photographic shots.
After the celebrations that are taking place at the moment, on Palm Sunday, which marks the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem riding a donkey, welcomed by a cheering crowd with olive branches in their hands, Trapani will inaugurate the week of events with the procession of the workers on the afternoon of Sunday 24 March.
The event will begin at 5.30 pm from Piazza Purgatorio and will see the participation of all the city workers who organize the procession of the Mysteries. They will parade through the streets of the historic city center with their representative banners, accompanied by the sound of the M° Pietro Mascagni musical band. The procession will then end at the Anime Sante del Purgatorio church with a moment of prayer and blessing.
Holy Week in Trapani continues with the traditional processions of the Madonna dei Massari and the Madonna del Popolo, which take place respectively on Holy Tuesday and Wednesday.
Even if these processions do not have the fame of that of the Mysteries, they have very ancient origins and wind through the streets of the historic centre.
The two Madonnas who are represented by a painting carried on the shoulders of their respective classes experience a common moment on the afternoon of Holy Wednesday in Piazza Lucatelli with the traditional exchange of candles as a sign of friendship and brotherhood.
