The cultural events continue at the S. Rocco museum in Trapani, which is enriched with another very interesting cultural proposal entitled "Silence" on display from 31 October 2023 to 31 March 2024 curated by the painter Stefano Gianquinto.
The artist from Milan has not held many exhibitions in his career and from what we learn his last release dates back to more than twenty years ago and this is why going to see him represents an additional reason, because his creations they are based on whether the artist has something to say at that moment.
The theme of the exhibition concerns illness and the difficult relationship between illness itself and art. «Always – says the curator of the exhibition, Don Liborio Palmeri, director of the exhibition center – the relationship between illness and art has represented a border that is difficult to describe. In many cases art has staged mental illness, making it, so to speak, less repugnant, less terrifying, if not downright fascinating. Who, when faced with the works of Vincent Van Gogh, does not feel the charm of that fragile man, capable of crushing the ghosts of his psychic suffering with his brush? Who, at the same time, does not feel the anguish that his art inexorably records to the point of predicting the tragic epilogue of his life? Or who, when faced with Toulouse-Lautrec´s dancers, doesn´t think of his stunted and sick body? Or who does not feel the anguish of his famous "scream" when faced with any painting by Munch? But illness can also be something else, it can even become a gentle and conscious nourishment of art, capable of making the expressive activity of a true artist not only a manifestation of his suffering, but also of overcoming it and his sublimation. This is the case of Stefano Gianquinto."
It is an autobiographical exhibition, because the artist himself tells his story of when he developed a form of diabetes since he was a child, which still accompanies him today and with which he learned to live.
