The fifteenth edition of Sicilia Ambiente, an international festival of feature films, short films and documentaries related to the theme of the environment and the sustainability of human rights, will start on 17 July in San Vito Lo Capo.
This event was born in 2009 and every year it has grown more and more thanks to the contribution of many subjects, who want to draw the publicīs attention to the delicate issue of environmental protection.
The awareness on the theme of the environment today has become increasingly strong that its protection is enshrined in the Constitution, precisely in art. 9 which inserts the protection of the environment, biodiversity, and ecosystems among the fundamental principles.
The effects of climate change are the order of the day: anomalous heat in winter and torrential rains in spring have brought several areas to their knees, such as those of Emilia Romagna, which still count the damages of the floods which have touched 9 billion euros .
The issue of human rights is also very topical also due to the war in Ukraine, which is still struggling to end where the sacrosanct right to peace is still far from being achieved; and as always in all wars, it is always civilians who pay the consequences, especially children.
Starting from the cinema, therefore, we want to contribute to the diffusion of the culture of sustainability with the screening every evening in the various locations of San Vito Lo Capo of films and documentaries in competition, which will be evaluated by a special technical jury.
Sicilia Ambiente Festival is several times the winner of the "Cultura In Verde" award assigned to the best environmental initiative.
The event which will also arrive in schools in the autumn is organized by Demetra Produzioni and by the cultural association Cantiere 7 with the patronage of the municipality of San Vito Lo Capo.
