The engines of the organizational machine for Holy Week in Trapani are warming up: as soon as the last day of Carnival is over, the spiritual attention in the city will resume with the "Scinnute", a traditional Lenten rite which is a prelude to the Procession of the Mysteries of Good Friday, which this year will be on April 7th.
The Maestranze Union has finally announced the calendar of the "Scinnute", which will begin on Friday 24 February with the groups of the Separation and the Washing of the Feet, respectively cared for by the class of goldsmiths and fishermen.
The "Scinnute" have very ancient origins and take their name from the ancient custom of the descent of the Sacred Groups from the original niches in which the Mysteries were found when they lived in the ancient church of S. Michele, which no longer exists because it was destroyed by the bombings of the 1943 during WWII.
From the niches, therefore, they were placed in the center of the altar, all decorated and decorated with flowers to be adored by the faithful. Over the centuries this ancient rite that marks Lent has been modified several times. In more recent times this tradition took place only on Fridays, today to allow for a more orderly and less crowded devotion after the pandemic, it has been preferred to draw up a calendar that includes other days of the week.
As always, the moments of prayer will be preceded and followed by the performance of the musical band outside the church Anime Sante del purgatorio.
