Those who crowd Favignana these days can combine the pleasure of the sea with that of culture because two important exhibitions have been inaugurated that will surely find a welcome response from visitors.
The first we like to point out is the photographic exhibition organized by Ansa Sicilia entitled "The Legacy of Falcone and Borsellino" which was set up at the former Florio factory. On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Capaci and via DŽAmelio massacres, in which the well-known anti-mafia magistrates and escort agents lost their lives, visitors, especially young people, will be able to find out who Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino were and what they represent today in the fight against the mafia.
This event represents the first of a long series of events that the municipal administration of Favignana intends to organize to raise awareness of the importance of fighting the mafia on all levels.
The exhibition can be visited until 19 July from 9.30 to 13.30 and from 16.00 to 20.00.
The other event not to be missed is the exhibition entitled "I Florio. Family and business stories "set up in the Florio palace, the ancient residence of one of the most prestigious families who economically governed the island.
They had a business empire that ranged from chemicals to wine, from tourism to the tuna industry and also a fleet of ninety-nine ships.
Like all great families there is a moment in which you reach the apex, from which unfortunately you go down to arrive at a gradual decline that ended with the liquidation of most of the assets due to the numerous debts that the Florio family had with banks and also with many suppliers.
The dynasty died out in 1957 with the death of the last heir Ignazio Florio jr., Who died alone in Palermo completely forgotten by everyone, because he had lost his wife and children.
The exhibition can be visited from 9.00 to 13.30 and from 15.00 to 19.00.
