After the preview of last March 11 to commemorate the third anniversary of the death of Sicilian archaeologist Sebastiano Tusa, who died in Ethiopia in a terrible plane crash, an exhibition entitled "Monsters and Rostri" can be officially visited at the former Florio factory in Favignana. .
In the museum area dedicated to him, some of the beaks recovered from the waters of the sea in front of the Egadi archipelago, where it took place on 10 March 241 BC, are on display. the famous Battle of the Egadi, the final event of the first Punic war.
Sebastiano Tusa dedicated many years of study to this naval battle thanks to the investigations conducted by the Superintendency of the Sea, under whose direction, many artifacts were found, which are now on display.
If it had not been for the work of Sebastiano Tusa these finds would not have existed like the Superintendency of the Sea itself, a structure commissioned by Tusa himself, thanks to which the enhancement and protection of the cultural and environmental assets found in the seabed passes. .
What Tusa leaves as a legacy is to make teaching and research activities important, opening them to scholars from all over the world to enhance the sites and to frame them in a quality tourist route, because only in this way can historical and archaeological finds be protected, making them known to visitors from all over the world.
It is with this in mind that the exhibition was created by the will of Tusa´s wife, thus constituting an opportunity to introduce visitors to the human aspect as well as the scholar who has distinguished Sebastiano Tusa.
Finally, the cultural event is divided into two strands, if we can say so: the first part has as its object the memory of the archaeologist who disappeared through his voice and video projections as part of an in-depth study that takes place in Pelermo, its city of origin, at the premises of the Bourbon Arsenal, while the second part, as we said in Favignana, on the rostrums for the entire Easter period.
