Literary reviews resume in Trapani, after the restrictions of the fourth wave of Covid.
On Thursday 17 February, the presentation of the book "The Queen of Kabul" written by the famous cartoonist Vauro who will be in Trapani as part of the "Libriamoci" course, a literary review organized by the hotel institute "I. e V. Florio ”of Erice in collaboration with the Galli Bookshop of Trapani.
Vauro´s will be a double event, because two meetings will be held, one in the morning at 11.30 at Palazzo Sales, in the heart of the historic center of Erice, the other in the afternoon in the Perrera Room at 18 in Trapani.
The large television audience has learned to know Vauro in Michele Santoro´s television broadcasts, where with his sharp pen he loved to immortalize the Italian political events of the moment with amusing cartoons.
The politics of yesterday as that of today have always been the subject of satire and Vauro has always been a careful witness, publishing a series of very entertaining books.
The book he will present next Thursday "The Queen of Kabul" is not ironic, because it is a volume that tells the twenty years of war in Afghanistan, which unfortunately, as the war has always shown, have proved useless, given that the Taliban regime returned to power in 2021, setting the clock back twenty years.
As if nothing had happened, what the Afghans had laboriously achieved was then lost, because they suddenly found themselves in the darkness of history.
Those who paid the highest price were women, because that laboriously achieved emancipation was canceled, finding themselves on the fringes of social and economic life with the obligation to wear the burqa when they leave home.
Other innocent victims of the regime are children and none of us will forget those images of a woman who threw her child over a wall of the Kabul airport so that she could reach Europe with the last departing humanitarian flights.
Well, Vauro´s book tells a series of stories of brave men, women and children who challenge every convention to work, to play and to tell what is forbidden.
The book also recounts the activity that Emergency, the association that Gino Strada founded in 1994 to offer free treatment to war victims and of which Vauro is a great supporter.
