After a year of absence due to a pandemic, the Cous Cous Fest, also known as the International Festival of Cultural Integration, returns, because through food, in particular couscous, union between peoples is achieved.
This delicious semolina dish, which in recent years we have come to know in many versions, has managed to tear down the walls and build bridges between nations and although there are still people who are against integration for the simple fear of the foreigner, this international review has taught that geographical borders no longer exist and cultural integration, even if with difficulty, is already a reality.
Letīs get to know, however, what are the events scheduled for this year, which as we said, due to the pandemic, the organizers were forced to reduce the live events with concerts and to focus on the race which is practically the heart of the event.
In fact, eight countries will participate in the championship, which will see the chefs competing to win the prestigious title of Couscous World Champion.
Particularly significant this year is the participation of Afghanistan, which with its representative will propose its cous cous specialty, which will not be a simple dish, but the launch of a message from an entire country that the rest of the world must not forget.
Returning to the hard and pure competition, the chefs will cook live directly on the stage set up in the square in a 45-minute timed challenge under the severe judgment of the jury composed of journalist Eleonora Baldwin and chefs Andy Luotto and Mareme Cisse.
Of these delicacies prepared in many ways, it is possible for the public to have tastings at the special Case del Cous Cous, which are huge stands specially set up in various key points of San Vito Lo Capo or in Piazza Santuario and on the beach.
The entrances are with the ticket and strictly reserved for people with a green pass.
An Expovillage will be set up on the seafront, in which it will be possible from 12 to 24 of each day of the event to take a great tour to learn about Sicilian and Mediterranean artisanal and agri-food production. Wine tasting will not be missing, because where there is good food, good wine cannot be missing.
Leading the various moments of the show in Piazza Santuario will be two well-known conductors in these parts, namely Marzia Roncacci and Federico Quaranta, the latter we have learned to know better lately on Rai 1 as the conductor of Linea Verde.
The final and the awards ceremony of the championship will be on Saturday 25 September at 10 pm in a sort of show that this year, as already mentioned, does not attract great music artists due to the restrictions due to the pandemic, but unfortunately the logistical and organizational difficulties they have had to meet the Feedback agency and the municipality of San Vito Lo Capo, which grants its patronage, do not allow the programming of shows at the height of the event, but despite everything the organization is working on alternative solutions that can allow the large audience to enjoy the shows in absolute safety while respecting the anti Covid regulations.
