During a press conference held at Palazzo DAlė, the event "The tradition of the Mysteries on the notes of the Stabat Mater" was presented and represents the first show on the bill of the 2021 season of the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese.
Also this year, unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the people of Trapani and the many tourists who would have come to Sicily for Easter, will not be able to attend the traditional Good Friday procession, but will still be able to "console themselves" with this concert in mode streaming Thursday 1 April and Friday 2 April at 8.30 pm on the You Tube channel of the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, but it will also be shared on the facebook page of the municipality of Trapani.
The Stabat Mater is a Gregorian melody, whose music over the centuries has been composed by over 400 composers, among which Alessandro Scarlatti from Palermo, considered one of the greatest Italian composers of Baroque music, is mainly remembered.
This gentle Gregorian chant in Latin was abrogated by the Council of Trent in the 16th century but was only reintroduced into the liturgy in 1727 by Pope Benedict XIII.
Returning to the concert organized by the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, the music will be performed not by the Sicilian composer, Alessandro Scarlatti, considered quite antiquated, but by the Marche artist Giovanni Maria Pergolesi, who finished the composition of the piece when he was already seriously ill and a few days before dying in the Capuchin convent of Pozzuoli.
The director of the show is Renato Bonajuto, while the choreography is curated by Giuliano De Luca and finally the sets and costumes are signed by Maestro Danilo Coppola. The Drums of the Maestranze Union and the young musicians of the Scontrino Conservatory of Trapani will take part in the event.
The cast of singers is truly international: we are talking about artists of the caliber of Desirče Rancatore, soprano, and Aurora Faggioli, contralto, while the conducting is entrusted to the young and talented Manuela Ranno.
