The engines of the sixty-second edition of the most famous Italian car competition, the "Monte Erice" hillclimb, valid for the Italian mountain speed championship starting from Valderice (Immacolatella fraction) and arriving at the finish line in the medieval village of Erice, are warming up. in the clearing of Porta Trapani.
The length of the route is 5,730 meters and the average gradient is 6.82%.
The stage, held every year in early autumn, and this year on 23, 24 and Sunday 25 October, represents one of the nine races in which the entire national championship is divided.
As always, the event is organized by ACI with the patronage of the municipalities of Erice, Valderice and the Region of Sicily.
Over time, the event has undergone several regulatory changes such as the introduction of the formula in two heats and the reduction of the course.
In 1954, in fact, when the first edition of the hill climb was held, won by Pasquale Tacci with an Alfa Romeo car, the route was 16,550 meters long and then reduced from 2009 to the current length of 5,730 meters to be repeated twice.
For some years the event has been enriched by an evocative historical re-enactment with a speed race reserved for vintage cars, glorious cars that accompanied Italy from the thirties up to the seventies.
The races, which start on Saturday 24 October at 8 am, for safety reasons related to Covid where gathering is forbidden, are closed to the public, but it is possible to follow the salient phases of the event in live streaming on the facebook page of the Trapani section of the ACI.
