After the great success of the XVII National Day of Friends of Museums organized by FIDAM (Italian Federation of Friends of Museums) where Trapani saw the extraordinary opening with guided tours of Villino Nasi, literally stormed by an endless line of visitors , will be repeated on Sunday 11 October with the event "Domenica di carta".
This is an exhibition of documents that have as their theme the historical evolution of epidemics in the province of Trapani between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries. The cultural event is organized by the Diocesan Historical Archive of Trapani, in collaboration with the State Archives of Trapani and with the patronage of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities.
Paper Sunday represents an event that is organized every year to raise awareness and value of the great archival heritage that our dioceses have, but especially in times of pandemics like these, it becomes useful to know that what is happening today, already in the past humanity has known, has faced with the means it had at its disposal and which it has in a certain way solved with a high price in terms of human lives.
We are the first post-war generation that experienced a pandemic and this exhibition is also important for not being disheartened by the fear of pain and death and compared to centuries ago, modern man has made great strides in medical experimentation, so if we want to send a message, we can safely say that this time too we will make it, learning from past experiences.
The exhibition will take place in two locations which are that of the State Archives in Piazza S. Anna from 9 to 17, where precious documents from the city hospitals will be exhibited, together with ancient medical prescriptions and medical solutions, while the exhibited from 10 to 13 and from 17 to 19 ancient documents from the most ancient city parishes (S. Lorenzo, S. Pietro and S. Nicola), ancient bishopric provisions and ministerial circulations on the use of some protection devices and reduction of the number of the faithful inside the churches to attend the celebrations. For the series, history repeats itself.
