The traditional floral display on the steps of San Domenico, "Arte & Fiori", returns on Friday 11 September and throughout the weekend, celebrating its tenth edition this year.
Arte & Fiori "is organized by the" Tradumari & Venti "association with the artistic direction of Maestro Claudio Maltese, who since 2011 has welcomed spring on the occasion of the Catholic holiday of Corpus Domini. This event should have been held last May, an exclusively spring month and traditionally typical for the infiorate, unfortunately, this appointment was skipped due to the coronavirus emergency and as soon as there was the possibility it organized itself for these last remnants of summer end.
The event is inspired by other similar events such as the Noto flower show, which for forty years has welcomed thousands of visitors in the splendid setting of the Baroque palaces of the Sicilian town. In the same way, the Infiorata of Trapani tries to recapture the same atmosphere of Noto with the steps leading to the medieval church of S. Domenico to admire real works of art that the city´s master florists display with such care.
The Trapani floral event, organized again this year with the patronage of the municipality of Trapani and the Rettoria di S. Domenica, is also a showcase for young artists in the floral composition who will paint in a colorful way one of the most characteristic places in the historic center of Trapani, finally freed from some bulky wooden platforms placed by a restaurant that has ceased activity and which have always defaced the initial section of the stone staircase.
The event requires several days of preparation to allow the creativity of the artists to express themselves in the best way without ever being banal, because floral art or rather the simple flower can really express a lot.
The infiorata opens on Friday at 5 pm and can be visited until 12 pm, while on Saturday the opening hours are from 9 am to 1 am and Sunday from 10 am to 9 pm.
