Sunday, July 26 in Trapani there will be a nice initiative that mixes mythology and tourist attraction of the area. We are talking about the Walking tour on the tracks of Ulysses that will wind through the streets of the historic center of Trapani to discover the oldest part, since the authoritative English scholar, Samuel Butler claims that Ulysses´ wanderings took place in Sicily and not in Ionian islands.
It is a rather fascinating theory that is worth discovering thanks to an initiative promoted by a tourist guide that will involve all those who want to participate in compliance with the health regulations issued on the occasion of the health emergency from Covid 19.
The walk will start from Villa Margherita and will wind along the via Garibaldi and the Piazza Ex Mercato del Pesce to continue along the walls of Tramontana.
The Sea, which can be admired from there, will play a central role in the ideal story that will be done on this unusual afternoon, because the Mediterranean Sea in the Odyssey becomes the protagonist for its bad weather, forcing the hero of the poem to a long journey that lasted ten years with the intention of returning home, in his Ithaca.
The walk will continue in the ancient streets of the historic center of Trapani, which was once the beating heart of a seaside town that no longer exists today.
What were the old fishermen´s houses today have become bars, restaurants and accommodation facilities, which have transformed our city into a huge tourist village which, unfortunately, today suffers from the economic crisis of these times.
The walk will end at the Torre di Ligny near the Scoglio del Malconsiglio, which according to an ancient legend the patriots met, led by Palmerio Abate, who freed Trapani from the Angevin bad government during the insurrection of the Sicilian Vespers.
The tour will last approximately two and a half hours and will begin at 18.
There is a participation fee of 10 euros for adults, while children under 10 years pay nothing.
The booking of the guided tour is mandatory by contacting the following numbers: 329.1263099, email: robertadirosa1@gmail.com.
The reservation must be made no later than 12 noon on 25/07/2020.
