These days there is a lot of talk about Trapani as a candidate city to be the Capital of Culture for the year 2021, but waiting for the jury to issue its verdict, Trapani is the protagonist of an international cultural event with the famous writer as its protagonist British Samuel Butler, who loved Sicily and especially Trapani.
For heavenīs sake one event is not enough to transform a city into a capital of culture, but until April 30 citizens and tourists can go to Torre di Ligny to admire a photographic exhibition entitled "The artist under the veil" with the photos taken by the same author visiting our territory.
These photos represent a truly exceptional historical documentation, because they show us Sicily, its landscapes and the inhabitants who lived there based on the uses and customs of the nineteenth century to see directly with our own eyes how we once lived.
Reading a book is important for knowing the history of a country or a company, but finding out with your eyes what the history books tell is truly fascinating.
And for this the Fardelliana Library, the promoter of the exhibition, must thank ST Johnīs College of Cambridge for the kind permission of the photos.
On the occasion of the event, the Fardellian Library itself proceeded to publish 300 copies of the anastatic edition of the manuscript "The author of the Odyssey", donated by the same author to the city of Trapani as a sign of gratitude for the extraordinary welcome it received during his stay in Sicily to carry out his study and research activities.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the scientific high school "Fardella" and the classical high school "L. Ximenes thanks to funding from the Sicily Region and the Fardelliana Library itself.
