Preparations are in full swing for the eighth edition of the event that commemorates the coming to Trapani of the King of Sicily, Frederick III with the Infante Manfred of Aragon, who died in Trapani on November 9th 1317 following a disastrous fall from a horse.
The event, organized by the association "Trapani: Tradumari & venti" with the patronage of the municipality of Trapani and with the contribution of the Sicily Region that will have as main theater the square of San Domenico on 3, 6, 8, 9 and 10 November with a program full of events that will transform the historic center of Trapani into a huge medieval village with dances and flag-wavers and where the ancient craftsmen´s crafts will be revived, but also the smells and flavors of ancient medieval cuisine.
The historical re-enactment also includes a commemoration ceremony with the laying of a wreath on the tomb of the Infante Manfredi of Trinacria, which is buried inside the church of San Domenico.
The historical re-enactment then continues with moments of leisure and entertainment such as the Great Royal Parade that will take place in the afternoons during the days of the event with historical groups with over 300 participants including guards, knights, musicians, jugglers and flag-wavers.
That of the Historical Re-enactment constitutes by 2012 the traditional Trapani appointment of early autumn, which attracts many people from Trapani, but also many tourists who come to our city with dozens of buses.
PROGRAM
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 3 Arrival of the Royal Family - Medieval Village Opening 5.30 pm Arrival in the city of Frederick III of Aragon, King of Trinacria, his wife Eleonora D´Angiò and the Infante Manfredi of Trinacria, Duke of Athens, escorted by the Knights and preceded by the group of Musicians and Flag-wavers «Real Trinacria» Trapani-Erice. The procession with the Royals in a carriage will wind up to the church of S. Francesco D´Assisi A brief historical intervention will follow, at the end of which, the procession will resume its march to head towards Palazzo Cavarretta for the ceremony of handing over the keys to the city.
WEDNESDAY 6 NOVEMBER 6.30pm Floral tribute to the Madonna of trapani and Sant’Alberto in the Basilica Maria SS. of Trapani. A performance by musicians and flag-wavers will follow.
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 8TH Hours, 17.30 (Cloister of S. Domenico - until 24.00) Opening of the Medieval Village with Craftsmen, Merchants and the various typical tastings. 9.30 pm great SHOWS OF FLAGS AND MUSICIANS "Flags that circle high in the sky, the rings of Chiarine and the roll of drums that echo in the ancient Dominican Cloister" with the first group of Musicians and Flag-wavers «Real Trinacria»
SATURDAY 9 NOVEMBER - Village and Visits - Mass - from 4.00 pm to 12.00 pm (Cloister and Church of S. Domenico) Medieval Village with Craftsmen, Merchants and various tastings of typical products. - 7 pm (Cloister of S. Domenico) Medieval dinner open to all. - 9.15 pm through the streets of the historic center Parade of Musicians and Flag-wavers «Real Trinacria» Trapani-Erice.
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 10th Village and Visits - large Royal Parade from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm (Cloister and Church of S. Domenico) Medieval Village with Craftsmen, Merchants and various tastings of typical products and Parade of Musicians and Flag-wavers «Real Trinacria» Trapani-Erice. 5.15 pm (from the Royal Church of S. Domenico) Grande CORTEO Regale with the infant Manfredi of Trinacria, King Frederick III of Aragon and his wife Eleonora D’Angiò. 6.15 pm (monumental «ex-fish market») Grand FESTIVAL Final in honor of the Royals.
