The re-enactment on the historic visit of the King of Sicily Federico III of Aragon and his wife Eleonora to Erice is about to return with the event "Festa Federicina" scheduled in Erice from June 28 to 30
On the last weekend of June, the medieval village par excellence will relive the atmospheres of the era when horses and riders could be seen on the streets, armed duels, crossbowmen, dancers and flag wavers with the characteristic melody of the musicians.
This year is the sixth edition of this historical re-enactment of the coming to Erice of the royal couple, which left an important sign of their permanence, which still today is clearly visible in the city Cathedral, which was built precisely because of the will of Frederick III as a sign of thanks to the people who gave so much help to the sovereign during the dynastic war between Angevins and Aragonese for the control of the Kingdom of Sicily after the extinction of the Norman-Swabian family.
Also this year the event is organized by the association "TraDuMari" with the patronage of the Municipality of Erice and the EriceArte Foundation, while the artistic direction is entrusted as always to M ° Claudio Maltese.
This year´s program is quite rich in events and from 15.00 to 20.00 includes the evocative medieval village with dances and flag-wavers and the characteristic stands for the display of medieval merchandise, as well as the sounds and smells of the period thanks to the possibility of tasting typical medieval dishes such as soup, warm bread, sweet fritters and the hippocrasso, which is an ancient drink made with spiced wine and sweetened with honey.
To the delight of the little ones and not only there will be the Panthesian donkeys with ancient trappings and for fans of ancient musical instruments there will be an exhibition of medieval lutherie tools, made with great meticulousness by prof. Elmo Naples of Cefalù.
At 3.30 pm the Federicina Party begins with the arrival in Porta Trapani of the royal procession accompanied by the inaugural parade of musicians and flag-wavers of the "Real Trinacria" group.
From there the royal procession will move to the Torri del Balio, where there will be the ceremony of handing over the keys of the city.
During the two days of the event, entertainment is ensured with the parade of musicians and flag-wavers through the streets of the town and the evocative craft workshops to show visitors the various techniques of working ericini carpets and antique ceramic objects .
The event will close on Sunday 30 June with a floral tribute to the Madonna of Custonaci, Celeste Patroness of Erice.
