The Monte Erice Climb Race was in the past one of the most important automotive competitions that took place in our area with a race valid for the Italian mountain speed championship.
The first edition was back in 1954 and was won by Pasquale Tacci with an Alfa Romeo, including a 16.550 meter long route.
Even today, this sporting competition continues to take place, but it has the flavor more than anything else of a historical re-enactment that is always included in the national championship but as a non-competitive tourist-cultural event with time trials and the exclusive use of mechanical chronometers.
Participation is guaranteed only with cars built from the origins until 1976, but cars built after that date may also be considered, provided they are of historical and collector interest.
The historical re-enactment also includes several collateral events starting from the “Trapani Hub Historic Car & Urban Beauty” exhibition, which will be inaugurated on Thursday 13 June, where cars, motorcycles and vintage memorabilia will be exhibited at Palazzo Cavarretta.
The exhibition will also be usable thanks to an audio multimedia guide that can be downloaded via a free app.
Friday, June 14, instead, a conference will be held entitled "From discovery to project, suggestions from the past to create the future", where distinguished speakers will talk about the importance of recovery and restoration.
Saturday we will enter the heart of the historical re-enactment with a walk towards Marsala, making several stops along the salt road, while in the evening in Trapani, at the Casina delle Palme, the vintage cars taking part in the historical re-enactment will be on the catwalk, where the driver and all the crew will be dressed in themed fashion based on the fashion of the era, to which the car you are driving refers to.
In short, a plunge into the past through the cars that accompanied Italian society in its uses and customs from the 30s to the 70s through the cars that circulated on Italian roads.
The historical re-enactment ends on Sunday 16th June, retracing the original time trial stage of some decades ago after having performed some skill tests in Valderice.
The goal will be at the top of Erice, where the awarding and the greeting of all the participants for next year will follow.
