Among the many tourist events that animate San Vito Lo Capo, tourists should not forget that of their patron saint, which is not only a religious festival, but also a folkloristic event of considerable tourist attraction, since it takes place on June 15 when now in the seaside village the tourist season has already begun.
The feast of the patron saint involves residents and tourists in a week in which many small side events are part of a big party in which the town of San Vito Lo Capo comes together to rediscover its cultural identity.
The festivities begin in the days preceding the party thanks to the bands, the concerts in the square and the competitions that take up the ancient maritime tradition of the village as the game of the Antenna a Mare, which is carried out with a beam of 10 meters on the water in the small harbor in the middle of the boats, while on the beach the boys challenge each other prevailing one over the other and avoiding falling into the sea, but the most important moment is the one that is lived at sunset when the boats at a very precise signal , they go out to sea to welcome the young Vito, accompanied by his nurse Crescenza and the Maestro Modesto, personified by three figurants dressed in period costumes.
During the landing operations, the community of San Vito welcomes them by launching rockets into the sky to the sound of sirens.
At the end of the landing, the three characters in procession accompanied by thousands of believers and tourists set off processionally to the Sanctuary, from where the statue of the Saint will be covered with the typical insignia that are the palm, which represents the victory of martyrdom, the crown that symbolizes the prize of God and the cloak covered by the ex votos donated by the faithful.
The celebrations close at midnight with the traditional pyrotechnic games.
