The first event that opens the Christmas holidays in Custonaci is the "Spincia Days", held from 6 to 8 December in the charming city center.
In reality, the feast of the spincia is held almost the whole year, but the spincia finds its maximum valorization in the Christmas period, because it traditionally comes as a Christmas cake, that on the day of the Immaculate in the houses the old grandmothers began to prepare it .
How much effort in preparing the dough, because it required strong arms; today, however, with the machines you can get a more abundant dough and in less time for the joy of tourists and visitors waiting for Christmas to renew a delicacy, which now, as we said at the beginning, is also prepared in the summer collateral event called "Spincia Fest".
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Custonaci with the patronage of the municipality, which sets up different stands with tastings from 17 to 23, where visitors can see directly how to prepare the dough of spince, based on flour, milk and potatoes.
But Spincia Day is not only a spicy tasting, but also other specialties such as ricotta cassatelle, cannoli and fig cookies, not to mention the food and wine specialties with wine and cheese tasting.
In addition to the playful aspect, these days is also a time of religious celebrations with the Holy Mass, where the children bring a flower to the Virgin Mary, to whom the Custonians are very devoted and to follow in the afternoon the procession of the simulacrum of the Immaculate Conception, which comes out of the church of San Giuseppe to reach the Shrine of Mary Most Holy.
Finally there are other musical entertainment moments, which surround the flavors and smells of the famous Sicilian fritters.
