This year too the event is reminiscent of the coming and also the tragic death in Trapani of Manfredi d´Aragona with his father Federico III, king of Sicily, and his mother Eleonora d´Angiò.
From this fact the association "Trapani: Tradumari & venti" really took place under the patronage of the municipality of Trapani and with the contribution of the Sicily Region it organizes from 9 to 11 November a calendar that traces the last days of life of Prince Manfredi of Trinacria, duke of Athens, who lost his life in Trapani falling ruinously from his horse on November 9, 1317.
The little prince was eleven years old and his untimely death threw his father Frederick III into despair, who decided to inundate his body in the church of San Domenico, where he still stands in a wooden-decorated urn, placed high on the right side of the nave near the presbytery.
For a weekend Trapani immerses itself in a medieval atmosphere that since 2012 is recreated a life that was made in the fourteenth century with the medieval village that set up in the square in front of the church with the smells and flavors of the time.
There will be practically no lack of characters who at that time lived in Trapani thanks to over 200 participants who will wear the typical period costumes and will walk through the center in a very impressive procession under the notes of the "Real Trinacria" trapani musicians and flag-wavers.
In the Ex Piazza Mercato del Pesce there will also be a striking medieval duel, where with the weapons of the time the participants will simulate some actions for visitors´ curiosity.
PROGRAM
FRIDAY 9 NOVEMBER Arrival of the Royal family - Medieval Village opening 5.30 pm Arrival in the city of Frederick III of Aragon, King of Trinacria, the consort Eleonora D´Angiò and the infant Manfredi of Trinacria, Duke of Athens, escorted by the Knights and preceded by the group Musici and Sbandieratori «Real Trinacria» Trapani-Erice. A floral tribute will follow to the tomb of the infant Manfredi in the church of San Domenico. 8.15 pm (Cloister of S. Domenico - until 11,30 pm) Opening of the Medieval Village with craftsmen, merchants and various typical tastings. Military camp with the Tire with the arch, the medieval Fencing arena, the Opificio and the Bottega dello Speziale and Medieval Dinner open to all. 9.30 pm GREAT SHOW OF FLAGS AND MUSIC "The Flags circling high in the sky, the blaring of Chiarine and the drumming of Tamburi that echo in the ancient Dominican Cloister" with the first group of Trapani of the Musicians and Flagwomen "Real Trinacria»
SATURDAY 10 NOVEMBER - Village and Visits - Holy Mass - Fire Show from 10.00 to 13.00 - from 4.30 to 24.00 (Cloister and Church of S. Domenico) Medieval Village with Artisans, Merchants and various tastings of typical products. Military camp with the Tire archery, the medieval Fencing arena, the Opificio and the Bottega dello Speziale. Visit of the ancient Octagonal Bell Tower. (in small groups) Guided tour of the Real Church of S. Domenico and of the «Chapel of the Crusaders. (The guided tour of the Church in the afternoon will begin after Holy Mass, from approximately 19.00). - 7 pm (Chiostro di S. Domenico) Medieval Dinner open to all. - 9.15 pm (from Piazza V. Veneto to S. Domenico) Parade of the Musicians and Flagwomen «Real Trinacria» Trapani-Erice.
SUNDAY 11 NOVEMBER Village and Visits - great Regal Procession from 10.00 to 13.00 (Cloister and Church of S. Domenico) Medieval Village with Artisans, Merchants and various tastings of typical products. Military camp with the Tire archery, the medieval Fencing arena, the Opificio and the Bottega dello Speziale. Visit of the ancient Octagonal Bell Tower. (in small groups). Guided Tour of the Real Church of S. Domenico and the "Chapel of the Crusaders" 10.15 am (from the Church of S. Francesco di Paola to S. Domenico) Parade of the Musicians and Flagwomen «Real Trinacria» Trapani-Erice. 5.15 pm (from the Real Church of S. Domenico) Grande CORTEO Regale with the infant Manfredi di Trinacria, King Federico III D´Aragona and his wife Eleonora D´Angiò. 6.30 pm (monumental "ex-fish market") Great FESTIVAL Final in honor of the Royals: Flag-wavers and musicians, Duello Cortese, Medieval Dance and historical narrative reminiscent of "Manfredi di Trinacria. 7.45 pm (Real Church of S. Domenico) Final tribute to the tomb of Manfredi di Trinacria.
