The 28th edition of the famous sphinx festival called "Spincia Fest", with a program increasingly rich in shows and musical events, makes it even better to taste what was once considered the typical Christmas cake par excellence, but which is now being prepared and eaten all year.
The event is organized by the Committee for the development and promotion of typical products of Custonaci with the patronage of the municipality, which from 7 to 15 July will animate the bay of Cornino with a series of events, which go beyond the simple tasting, but since 1991 it has become a tourist event that attracts many visitors, thanks to a policy of de-seasonalization and internationalization, because since 2007 the organizers have invited other nations such as Tunisia, Peru and Romania to compare their specialties with the typical Sicilian ones.
In addition, the organization makes available to interested companies the stands for the promotion of their products and in the square of Cornino takes care of the preparation of the stage to host the musical events, which will be the setting for the tasting of the spincia.
For those who do not know, the spincia is a poor cake, whose term comes from the Latin spongia, which means "sponge", because this small pancake with an irregular hole in the center recalls in some ways a small sponge. You can eat in many ways, with honey or simply dipped in sugar.
The opening of the stands is scheduled at 6.00 pm with the tasting of the spicie just out of the boiling oil of a giant cauldron, which stands out in one of the points where it is possible to buy them.
Following at 21.30 there is a musical show, while the final evening of the event includes the striking musical fireworks to say goodbye to next year.
