As was the case in 2016 on the occasion of the arrival of the Amerigo Vespucci ship in Trapani, on which numerous Trapani and tourists were able to get on board to visit it, it will also be for Palinuro, which will arrive in Trapani from 28 June to 2 July.
In these days it will be possible to visit it to admire its dimensions and to know the instrumentation on board.
For those who do not know it, the Palinuro is a school ship of the Italian Navy, which has very ancient origins; in fact it was launched March 21, 1934, to be used initially for fishing and transport of cod on behalf of a private company; then in 1951 it was bought by Italy to support Amerigo Vespucci in the role of a school ship for young naval officers, replacing another school ship that was the Christopher Columbus, sold to the Soviet Union as compensation for the damage suffered by the communist country during the Second World War.
Obviously after the purchase the boat was transformed and used to the new role, officially entering service on July 16, 1955 with the new name of Palinuro, in honor of the eponymous mythological character, who was the legendary coachman of Aeneas in the famous poem " Eneide "by Virgilio.
From that day until today the Palinuro has touched many ports of the Mediterranean and from June 28 will be in Trapani for a stop that will last, as already said, until July 2 to open its doors to the civilian population with a series of events and initiatives according to the following program:
June 28th, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm; - 29 June from 10:00 to 12:00, and from 15:00 to 18:30; - 30 June and 01 July, from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00.
After the stop in Trapani, the Palinuro will resume its journey and then return to its naval base located at La Maddalena, in Sardinia.
