This year the summer in San Vito Lo Capo is enriched with a new event that is the giant chess tournament that will start on June 21 and continues practically until September to entertain the various visitors on holiday.
The event will take place in Piazza Carlo Barbera (former Piazza Marinella) that for the occasion will become a giant chessboard that will attract passers-by to play chess with giant size pieces, which will be easy to move on the 64 houses in which the pizza will be divided for the performance of the game.
Chess is one of the most popular pastimes in the world and is defined as the sport of the mind, because there is no muscular effort on the part of the player, but only a playful activity that stimulates the mind for the countless strategies that can be achieved. put in the field.
To play chess usually do not serve particular places, but you can play at home, in private clubs or even on the Internet, where the person, practically, puts in front of a computer that thanks to a particular program acts as an opponent in the flesh and bones.
The history of chess is very old and some sources tell us that it arrived in Europe around the year 1000 thanks to the Arabs, who spread it, reaching, however, the modern form that we know in the fifteenth century, while the regulation was only codified in the nineteenth century.
In the San Vito Lo Capo chess tournament you can play alone or in a team and is organized by the association "Friends of the Giant Chess under the patronage of the municipality and collects more and more participants from year to year, although this year is the first edition that is included in the bill, lasting for the entire season until September when it will ideally give the witness to the "Cous Cous Fest".
During the game there will be moments of entertainment with the performance of musicians and moments of folklore with itinerant musical performances.
