The Unification of Italy starts from Marsala, when on 11 May 1860 Giuseppe Garibaldi landed with his 1008 men in Marsala after leaving Quarto.
This expedition has gone down in history as the famous "Expedition of the Thousand", which aimed to unify the whole of Italy from the North and the South under a single Sovereign.
To commemorate this historic event, the municipality of Marsala has prepared a calendar full of events and events, marking the beginning of the tourist season in Marsala, which in 2017 was particularly rich in attendance.
Also this year there will be the "Garibaldi Challenge Marsala" sailing regatta, which has reached its third edition thanks to the participation of the Marsala sailing clubs and the Italian Sailing Federation, which in 2018 lends its patronage and recognizes it as an official federal event .
When the regatta was born in 2016, its ambitious objective was to resume the famous regatta of the Barcolana di Trieste, where over two thousand boats participate.
This year the events garibaldine have a close marriage also with the social world, in particular with the disabled, who are protagonists Sunday, May 13 at the municipal stadium in an athletics competition.
There will also be schools and institutions of the third sector that will inaugurate from Tuesday, May 8th at Palazzo VII Aprile a series of exhibitions such as the historical calendars and theatrical performances at the Impero theater that have as common denominator the Expedition of the Thousand and the Unity of Italy in its multiple aspects.
This year there will be a kitesurfing championship that is a sport in which an athlete uses the surf with a kite, which uses the wind as a propellant force to move on the water through a bar connected to the kite.
