After weeks of fervid preparations, the great carnival festival in the Egadi Islands is about to start, with a program full of initiatives for adults and children dedicated to happiness.
The 8th of February begins on Thursday in the Piazza Matrice in Favignana for children with the "La Maschera della Scuola" event, where the children of the schools dressed in carnival will be involved, while the fun then continues at 4 pm Palatenda and finally at 20.30 in Piazza Europa for the official opening of the dances with music and dances with the classic tasting of "cunzato bread".
From Friday 9th to Tuesday 13th February the afternoon is always dedicated to the little ones, while in the evening the adults can be unleashed dancing with the hits of the moment. Like any carnival that is also true to Favignana there are allegorical wagons, which the city workers have set up for the fun of tourists.
These initiatives are framed in the perspective of a de-seasonalization of tourism, which already at Christmas has been experimented with great success, because Favignana in winter retains a very special charm and maybe you can appreciate certain beauties without the normal frenzy of summer .
As we said at the beginning the carnival is not only in Favignana, but also in Levanzo and Marettimo, which provides in particular at Levanzo Saturday, February 10 at 21 at the Social Center of the island a dance evening divided into two parts: in the first there it will be a sort of musical journey listening to the classical pieces of Italian music live, while in the second there will be the possibility to dance on Latin American rhythms that recall in a certain sense the Brazilian carnivals.
At Marettimo, on the other hand, Thursday, February 8th, it starts at 10 am with entertainment for children and at 5.30 pm a masked parade through the streets of the town. The centerpiece of the celebrations will always be the parish Oratory with a strictly masked entrance and prizes for the most original costume with tasting of typical products.
On Sunday afternoons of carnival in Marettimo there will be a parade of allegorical floats through the streets of the town that will have the following route: Via Telegrafo, Piazza Scalo Nuovo, Corso Umberto, Scalo Vecchio, Scalo di Mezzo, Piazzetta Scalo Nuovo, Corso Umberto, with meeting along Corso Umberto.
