At Erice, the tourist season starts with the Federicina Festival, which will revive from 2 to 4 June Erice the atmosphere of medieval times with the historic re-enactment of the arrival of King Federico III of Aragon and his wife Eleonora.
An important sign of their stay in the medieval village of Erice is the Duomo, built in the 14th century to thank the Erodinists for their protection during the war between Angevin and Aragonese in the context of the dynastic dispute to govern Sicily after the extinction of Norman- Svevo.
The event held for the fourth consecutive year is therefore realized by the "TraDuMari" association and has the patronage of the Municipality of Erice and of the EriceArte Foundation.
The event is organized at various times that will take place on Friday June 2nd at 10.00 pm in Porta Trapani, with the arrival of the regal procession accompanied by the musicians and the bandwagon of the "Real Trinacria" group.
From Porta Trapani, the Regal Court will head to Piazza Loggia, where there will be the charming ceremony of delivery of the keys of the city.
The regal procession at 11:00 will reach the church of S. Antonio (Porta Spada), where the "medieval village" will be inaugurated with dances and bandwagon.
This year, the organization invited the group of "Drums of Norcia" and the "Balestrieri di Norcia" group for the classical parade in a sign of closeness and solidarity with a community strongly affected by the earthquake.
Also from Norcia will come the ancient crossbows that will be exhibited at Porta Spada in the fascinating village of the crossbow, in which Norcia´s friends will perform in an exciting shooting competition with the ancient crossbow.
At 17.30 there will be the oath of the knights and the equestrian court with King Frederick III and the 4 knights of the palio with always the musicians and bandwriters of the Trinacria Trapani-Erice group who will head from the church of S. Antonio to Porta Spada. 19, you will be able to attend the "Monte San Giuliano" stake, which consists of a spectacle with various medieval equestrian games.
But this is only the beginning of the first three days, because every day and throughout the event there will be parades of musicians and bandwidthers with a particularly good news for the palate, because there will be Saturday 3 June at 19.00 Always in the medieval village set up in front of the church of S. Antonio (Porta Spada) the festival of the porchetta with tasting of soup, hot bread, sweet pancakes and hippo, an antique drink of spiced wine and sweetened with honey.
The event will end on Sunday June 4th at 12.00 with the 4th Regional Meeting of the Historical Courts of Sicily, and at 18.00 as always grand finale with a floral tribute to the Madonna of Custonaci, Celeste Patrona of Erice.
