Not many people know that the feast of the first May´s work is also for the Catholic Church on which the figure of Saint Joseph is being celebrated, which in the municipality of Custonaci is solemnized in a particular way through a series of manifestations and events that Keep from the last days of April and end on May 1st.
With the festival of work in Custonaci officially opens the tourist season, which for a few years in the marble town is programmed in a special way, since Custonaci has so much to offer on cultural and natural resources.
The work of St. Joseph Worker was originally born in the nearby hamlet of Sperone. They were the beginning of the 19th century, and thanks to the devotion of a family of the place miraculously survived an earthquake and a lightning strike, the solemn tradition of the so-called "admitted to St. Joseph" began, so that the saint could be thanked for the miracle .
This "admitted", which in Italian translates with "invitation", consists in setting up a votive altar in honor of the saint, serving the typical bread of St. Joseph and folding the table where three people will sit there; Representations of Jesus, Joseph, and Mary.
The dishes served at the table are prepared by the whole community of Custonaci and, to embellish the scene we have several children dressed in angels. They also enjoy the dishes prepared by the community, while in the background the cheerful music performed by the town band resounds.
Festivals also take advantage of music events, games and recurrence in memory of the many workers of dead-end mourners in the workplace. In fact, in the main square of the country, on Sunday, April 30th will be celebrated a suffrage.
After the celebration of Mass, there will be a procession along the country´s streets with the joyful pyrotechnic explosions at the end of the festivities.
