Anyone wishing to come to the province of Trapani on Good Friday, will also attend the procession of the Mysteries, which takes place in Erice.

The procession kicks off at 14.00, with output from the Church of San Giuliano in Erice.

Compared to the procession of Trapani, one of Erice has a shorter duration as the procession is composed only of 6 vare with statutory groups in smaller wooden who perform along a shorter path and in a faster route.

In fact, the characteristic annacata of Trapani mysteries here is replaced by a much speedier pace, due to the inaccessible and steep streets of Erice.

The origin of this procession is to be found in the second half of the sixteenth century, when the stages of the Cross with the characters of flesh and blood were performed. It was the Council of Trent, which represented a firm and decisive response to the Protestant Reformation of the Catholic Church, to speak harshly against all expressions of popular piety does not conform to the dictates of the Gospel.

After several adjustments, therefore, in the second half of 1700, it was decided to replace the set with wooden statues, still carried in procession by the devotees.

They are:
1st GROUP: PRAYER IN THE GARDEN OF Gethsemane (entrusted to the class of muleteers and carters)
2nd GROUP: THE FLAGELLATION (formerly assigned to the class of shoemakers, now in the civil service class);
3rd GROUP: The Crowning with Thorns (formerly assigned to the class of blacksmiths, today to that of potters);
4th GROUP: THE RISE AT CALVARY (entrusted to the class of masons);
5th GROUP: URN (formerly entrusted to the clergy, young people today are ericini that lead him in procession);
6th GROUP: THE SORROWS (entrusted to the City, however, was once the people he cared).

The procession as anticipated will start at 14.00 and includes the following itinerary:

CHURCH OF SAN GIULIANO, VIA ROMA, VIA SAN FRANCESCO, VIA VITTORIO EMANUELE, MOTHER CHURCH, Carvini VIA, VIA GUARRASI, Piazza Umberto I, Via Vittorio Emanuele, VIA January SALERNO, SAN MARTINO, VIA FONTANA, Guarnotti VIA, VIA ROME, THE CHURCH OF SAN GIULIANO where, at 20, is expected to return the sacred groups.
