The famous landing of a Thousand year celebrates the 156th anniversary, and the city of Marsala, which was the landing point of this expedition Risorgimento, is prepared with a series of initiatives, to solemnly commemorate an event in history that marked the ´ beginning of the Risorgimento not only in Sicily, but in all Italy, still divided politically, but in the ideal patriotic already and alone.
Conferences, art exhibitions, video screenings, are the events planned, culminating in the re-enactment, strictly made with period costumes, on May 11 with a sailing regatta in the harbor of Marsala.
Marsala is particularly linked not only to the figure of Garibaldi, but to all the events of the Risorgimento, because it represents the starting point of the Risorgimento, which led to the unification of Italy.
Much of the city toponymy, in fact, bears clear evidence of this important episode in the second half of the nineteenth century (eg: Via Garibaldi, Via Nino Bixio, via Quarto, via the Landing, Piazza Piedmont and Lombardy).
In the days of Garibaldi´s events you can visit inside the monumental complex San Pietro, the Garibaldi Museum, which is a permanent exhibition of memorabilia from the Risorgimento period.
Inside it was reconstructed in detail, an impressive old-artistic journey which includes the period costumes, the Thousand weapons, original documents, a rich photographic archive and even an armchair damask on which rested after Garibaldi Landing Marsala.
After crossing the main hall of the museum, you enter the room dedicated to the Thousand and Mito, where there are portraits, paintings, photos and prints depicting the faces of the men and boys who married the spirit of the Renaissance gave a vital contribution to the process of national unification.
Finally, under the program the inauguration of Palazzo Griggs are scheduled (Saturday, May 7, 17.30) and then will be inaugurated, Wednesday, May 11, precisely 156 years to the day of the landing, the Monument to the Thousand, known by Marsalesi "The Surrogate".
Saturday, May 7 there will be the Night Tricolore, while Garibaldi´s events will close on May 15 with the exhibition Siciliamo, organized as always by the Chamber of Commerce.
